PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a transfer efficiency by increasing an effective charge transfer time to branched parts in a charge coupled device having signal output routes branched into two systems. SOLUTION: A branch electrode (H5) is made to be independent from the one-dimensionally arrayed electrodes (H1, H2) of the charge coupled device. A fixed DC voltage (V5) is applied on the branch electrode (H5). A driving voltage, a driving timing, and a structure, etc., are devised concerning upstream side electrodes (H1, H2) and downstream side electrodes (H3, H4) adjacent to the branch electrode (H5), so as to generate temporally continuous step-shape potential. The charge transferred from a channel area under the upstream side electrode (H2) passes under the branch electrode (H5) without being stored, and is moved to a channel area under the downstream side electrodes (H3, H4).
