PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a softening detergent composition which can soften a fabric in addition to clean the fabric and clay minerals are less prone to remaining on the fabric. SOLUTION: A softening detergent composition comprises (a) 1 to 20% by mass of a granulated clay containing, as the main component, a smectite clay mineral represented by the general formula (I) (with the proviso that the mass ratio of the Na/Ca in the granulated clay is less than 1.0): [Si<SB>8</SB>(Mg<SB>a</SB>Al<SB>b</SB>)O<SB>20</SB>(OH)<SB>4</SB>]<SP>X-</SP>×X/n[Me]<SP>n+</SP>(I) (wherein 0<a≤6, 0≤b≤4, 0.2≤x=12-2a-3b≤1.2; Me is at least one member selected from among Na, K, Li, Ca, Mg, and NH<SB>4</SB>; and n is the valency of Me), (b) 1.0 to 18% by mass of a nonionic surfactant, (c) 6 to 27% by mass of an anionic surfactant (except fatty acid salts), (d) 10 to 35% by mass of an alkali agent (with the proviso that the content of silicates in the softening detergent composition is 6% by mass or below), and (e) 3 to 35% by mass of a crystalline aluminosilicate.
