Steel is deoxidized during continuous casting by adding to the stream of steel flowing into a mould e. g. from a ladle between 50 and 150 grams Al, as pure metal and/or alloy, per tonne of steel. The Al material may be fed as wire, or may be granular and fed from a vibrating trough or fluidized and injected into the stream, preferably at 25 to 150 mm above the metal in the mould. Other refining elements such as B, Ce, Zr, Nb or Ta may be also fed to the stream of steel, e. g. 60 to 90 grams B per tonne of steel; those elements may form an alloy with the Al.</p> |
