Disclosed herein is an imaging device which includes imaging means and control means for implementing exposure control based on an imaging result acquired by the imaging means. In the imaging device, the control means includes sorting means for sorting the imaging result into an achromatic region and a chromatic region, evaluation value calculating means for calculating an evaluation value indicating brightness of a target in the imaging result based on a luminance value of the imaging result, and exposure control means for calculating a control amount so that the evaluation value becomes a control target value, to thereby implement exposure control for the imaging means. The control amount is calculated so that variation in the control amount corresponding to variation in a luminance value of the achromatic region is reduced based on a difference between the luminance value of the achromatic region and a luminance value of the chromatic region.
