PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for uniformly spreading a food dough without causing slipperiness between a food dough and a spreading roller and shrinking a food dough when a lump food dough is spread into a flat shape. SOLUTION: The method for spreading a food dough comprises spreading a food dough 11 by a food dough spreading apparatus which is equipped with a turntable 13, a spreading roller 29 drivably and rotatably arranged above the turntable 13 and vertically moves either the turntable 13 or the spreading roller 29. The turntable 13 is kept in a stopped state or in a low-speed rotation state until the food dough 11 on a tray 21 placed on the turntable 13 is brought into contact with the spreading roller 29 and the turntable 13 is rotated and the food dough is spread after the food dough 11 is brought into contact with the spreading roller 29.
