<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive image forming device that is simple in circuit configuration. <P>SOLUTION: This image forming device 1 has charging means 117Y, 117M, 117C, and 117K, arranged facing the photoreceptors 62Y, 62M, 62C, and 62K, respectively, and high-voltage power supplies 110Y, 110M, 110C, and 110K that apply high voltages to the static charging means 117Y, 117M, 117C, and 117K. The device detects abnormalities in the static charging means 117Y, 117M, 117C, and 117K by detecting that the static charging means 117Y, 117M, 117C, and 117K have been discharged using a discharge detector 130.
