A method for editing a surround mode and an A/V system to which the same is applied are provided to embed only a mode for which a user wishes in a system and store the surround mode loaded in the system in another device by allowing the user to directly select the surround mode and loading the surround mode in the system. A microprocessor unit(110) sets a surround editing mode, and classifies whether the surround editing mode is an additional mode or a deletion mode of a surround mode. If the surround editing mode is the additional mode, the microprocessor unit(110) adds a selected surround mode in an operation mode list, or confirms whether an external interface is connected, reads surround mode information stored in an external memory connected to the external interface, and adds the surround mode information in the surround operation mode list. If the surround editing mode is the deletion mode, microprocessor unit(110) selects a corresponding surround mode from the operation mode list and adds the selected surround mode in a waiting mode list. A flash memory(130) stores a surround mode name and data of the surround mode added in the microprocessor unit(110). A digital signal processing unit(120) generates an effective sound corresponding to the surround mode set up in the microprocessor unit(110) with respect to an inputted audio source.
