PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of an ink jet head which enables manufacturing an ink jet head having various channel characteristics in a common outer dimension. SOLUTION: In a head chip 1, drive walls 13 composed of piezoelectric elements and channels 14 are alternately juxtaposed, outlets and inlets of the channels 14 are disposed in the front surface and the rear surface, and drive electrodes 15 for applying voltages that drive the drive walls 13 are formed in the channels 14. The ink jet head has the head chip 1, causes the drive walls 13 to undergo shear deformation by applying the voltages to the drive electrodes 15, and causes the ink in the channels 14 to be discharged from nozzles. In the manufacturing method of the ink jet head, with respect to the head chip 1 after the drive electrode formation, the region which is a part of the rear surface of the head chip 1, includes the formation region of the channels 14, and is parallel to the channel array is machined to grooving along the channel array.
