<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical compensation sheet contributing to improvement of view angle characteristics of a liquid crystal display, and to provide a liquid crystal composition useful for preparation of the optical compensation sheet. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal composition comprises at least a kind of onium salts, at least a kind of rod-like liquid crystal compounds, and at least a kind of copolymers comprising at least a kind of repeating units M1 derived from monomers having an aliphatic group having a terminal carbon atom substituted with a fluorine atom, at least a kind of repeating units M2 derived from monomers comprising alkyl group, and at least a kind of repeating units M3 derived from hydrophilic monomers having at least a kind of hydrophilic groups selected from a carboxy group (-COOH), a sulfo group (-SO<SB>3</SB>H), a sulfate group (-OSO<SB>3</SB>H), a phosphonoxy group (-PO(OH)<SB>2</SB>) and salts thereof.
