PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a switching power supply for stepping up or stepping down DC power through the utilization of a transformer in which the peak value of voltage is suppressed when a switch is turned off, and power consumption required for suppressing the peak value of voltage is reduced. SOLUTION: A primary winding 11p and a secondary winding 11r are wound around a middle leg provided with no air gap, and a secondary winding 11f is wound around one or both outer legs provided with an air gap thus forming a transformer 11. The secondary winding 11r is connected with a diode 5 such that power is passed when a transistor 3 connected with the primary winding 11p is turned off, the secondary winding 11f is connected with a diode 12 such that power is passed when the transistor 3 is turned on, and capacitors 8 and 13 are connected, respectively, between the joint of both secondary windings and respective diodes.
