PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerator and its control method capable of retrieving not only the basic information on stored articles stored in a plurality of storage spaces but also their storing positions through a small number of antennas by mounting a small number of antennas only on one end face of a storage compartment without mounting a plurality of antennas on every inner side face of the refrigerator, thus a space occupied by the antennas can be reduced, a dimension of the refrigerator can be also reduced, an inner volume of the storage compartment can be increased, and a manufacturing cost of the refrigerator can be reduced. SOLUTION: This refrigerator comprises tags 112 attached to the stored articles 106 of the storage compartment, a reader 104 having the plurality of antennas 206a-206d of recognition distances different from each other, and recognizing the tags 112 by using each of the antennas 206a-206d, and a control portion 102 detecting a position of the tag 112 attached to the stored article on the basis of the difference in recognition distances of the antennas 206a-206d.
