PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording device which can adapt itself to load variation with time passage of years of the recording device and realize stable carriage drive control with sufficient response speed, and a method for controlling carriage drive. SOLUTION: In this method for controlling carriage drive, an adjustment value of feed forward control can be determined, based on a control signal to a motor driver to be obtained during actually moving a carriage at a uniform rate, as an indication of the resultant load variation with the time passage of years of the recording device.
