PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sharpen and define boundaries between characters and a background. SOLUTION: A controller 106 controls each pair of liquid crystal display elements 110, each of which comprises a pixel electrode 111, a pixel 112, and a TFT 131 for one pixel, as one dot. Therefore, boundaries between liquid crystal display elements for use in character display and those for use as the background are not made rugged even microscopically when horizontal lines are displayed on a liquid crystal display device 100 on the same manner, whereby character display more approximating one on a liquid crystal display device having a stripe type pixel arrangement suitable for display of drawing lines, graphics, and characters is possible.
