An invalid hoist comprises a support member 10, a bar 12 pivotally connected to the support member 10, drive means 36 for driving the bar 12 for pivotal movement relative to the support member 10 and damper means 18, independent of the drive means, for damping movement of the arm 12 relative to the support member 10. The drive is preferably a piston and cylinder. A pair of dampers can be provided. If the drive fails, the damper(s) allow a slow powering to take place. |
