PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanning optical system capable of scanning light at high speed, an image display apparatus using this scanning optical system, and electronic equipment. SOLUTION: The scanning optical system comprises: a light source 101 for supplying light beams; a movable mirror 103 that scans the light beam from the light source 101 over a screen 105 of a prescribed irradiation region and over a first reflection mirror 112 of the region other than the irradiation region; and the first and second reflection mirrors 112, 114 of the reflection optical system that reflects the light beam travelling from the movable mirror 103 in the direction of the first reflection mirror 112 to detour it in the direction of the screen 105.
