<p>Process for making a copolymer by copolymerising (1) ethylene with (2) at least one aliphatic C<SUB>3</SUB>-C<SUB>20</SUB> alpha-olefins and (3) at least one C<SUB>4</SUB> to C<SUB>30</SUB> conjugated or non-conjugated diene, by contacting with a catalyst comprising (a) a transition metal compound of Formula (A), and (b) an activating quantity of a suitable activator, groups R<SUP>1</SUP> and R<SUP>2</SUP> are -R<SUP>a</SUP>, -OR<SUP>b</SUP>, -NR<SUP>c</SUP>R<SUP>d</SUP>, and NHR<SUP>e</SUP>: groups R<SUP>a</SUP>, R<SUP>b</SUP>, R<SUP>c</SUP>, R<SUP>d</SUP>, and R<SUP>e</SUP>, and group R<SUP>3</SUP> are (i) aliphatic hydrocarbon, (ii) alicyclic hydrocarbon, (iii) aromatic hydrocarbon, (iv) alkyl substituted aromatic hydrocarbon (v) heterocyclic groups or (vi) heterosubstituted derivatives of said groups (i) to (v); M is a Group 3 to 11 or a lanthanide metal; E is phosphorus or arsenic; X is an anionic group, L is a neutral donor group; n is 1 or 2, y and z are independently zero or integers such that the number of X and L groups satisfy the valency and oxidation state of the metal M. The process is useful for making elastomeric polymers.</p> |
