The method involves evaluating the signal output from a sensor (3) continuously, at a central unit (1), where the sensor is connected to the central unit through a cable. The unit examines the signal to detect the presence of disruptions of the cable. The unit uses the detected disruptions for validation of other sensor signals, if the crash event is signaled before detection of disruptions by the sensor. An independent claim is also included for a device for generation of validation signals for triggering a passenger protection system.
