摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a honeycomb structure of a new concept and a production method therefor by which thermal capacity is lowered following a decrease in the weight of the honeycomb structure and the catalytic reaction efficiency is further improved owing to an increase in the surface area of a catalyst-carrying layer. <P>SOLUTION: The honeycomb structure 4 comprises one or more metal foils 1 including corrugated foils and reciprocally rolled and a catalyst deposited on the metal foils 1. The honeycomb structure 4 has fine pores 3 in a portion of or the entire surface of two or more metal foils 1 and the average diameter (d) of the fine pores 3 satisfies the following expression (1): d&le;2t<SB>1</SB>+6t<SB>2</SB>(1) wherein t<SB>1</SB>denotes the thickness of the metal foils 1 and t<SB>2</SB>denotes the average thickness of the catalyst-carrying layer 5 formed on the metal foils. The average diameter (d) of the fine pores 3 is larger than 2t<SB>2</SB>.
