PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for pyrolyzing waste plastics using a pyrolysis catalyst while suppressing to a minimum its loss in its pulverization despite keeping pyrolysis efficiency high. SOLUTION: The pyrolysis catalyst is in the form of granules of a titanium oxide or its mixture. This catalyst is obtained by crushing the baked product of titanium oxide gel or its mixture with at least one kind of gel selected from alumina gel and silica gel followed by edging treatment of the crushed product. This catalyst has such a granular size distribution that the proportion of granules 0.5-1.18 mm in size is 50-95 wt.% and that of granules 1.18-1.7 mm in size 5-50 wt.%, and has an abrasion percentage of less than 2.0%.
