<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ash melting furnace with refractories having improved salt permeation resistance and insulating resistance to elongate a period for repairing the refractories. <P>SOLUTION: The refractories 6 are formed of Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, arranged on a ceiling 10a and a side wall 10b of the ash melting furnace in no contact with ash melted liquid. The Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>contains impurities of 20 wt% or less or SiC or SiC of 80 wt% or more.
