PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting system for checking enabling light blocking members which are used for blocking light when checking a liquid crystal panel, to be operated in a short period of time. SOLUTION: The lighting system for checking L is equipped with a light source 4 composed of a plurality of fluorescent lights 4a illuminating the liquid crystal panel which is held by a holding means, from the backside; an optical waveguide; and the light blocking members 6a which block light from the light source 4. The light blocking members 6a are arranged with respect to the plurality of fluorescent lights 4a so as to be movable between a light block position and a light non-block position. Furthermore, a gearing mechanism 7 for simultaneously gearing the plurality of light blocking members 6a and a motor M for driving the gearing mechanism are also disposed. The plurality of light blocking members 6a are positioned at the light non-block position by the motor M and the gearing mechanism 7 at a checking time when the liquid crystal panel is held by the holding means. Alternatively, the plurality of light blocking members 6a are positioned at the light block position by the motor M and the gearing mechanism 7 at a changing time of the liquid crystal panel when the liquid panel is detached from the holding means.
