The mechanical immobilizer for vehicles when in the locked state prevents release of the brakes. For heavy road vehicles equipped with spring-loaded brakes a security device is provided which in the closed state prevents opening of the compressed air release valve (1) but which in the open state enables opening of the valve. The security device is a bolt (3) passing at right angles through the knob (2) of the release valve and through the foot end (4) of which fits a padlock (5).
