1-[Naphthoquinone- (1,2)-diazide- (2)-sulphonyloxy-(5) ]-dihydroxy-(3,5)-benzene is prepared by stirring sodium bicarbonate solution into phloroglucinol and naphthoquinone(1,2)-diazide-(2)-sulphochloride-(5) dissolved in dioxane, digesting in dilute acid to separate the mono-ester, dissolving in dioxane and reprecipitating by addition of water. The corresponding 1,3 bis ester of monohydroxy benzene is prepared similarly using phloroglucinol. The same sulphochloride is used to prepare esters from 4-ethyl-resorcinol, 1,3-dihydroxy-(5)-methylbenzene, phloroglucinol monoethylether and 1,3-dihydroxy-(4,6)-dichlorobenzene by analogous methods, esterifying one only of the hydroxy groups in each case. Other similar sulphochlorides and hydroxybenzenes for ester preparation are listed. |
