A method for producing a stabilized fluoropolymer wherein a stabilized fluoropolymer is produced by fluorinating an object containing a fluoropolymer having a group derived from sulfonic acid is characterized in that the fluoropolymer having a group derived from sulfonic acid has -SO3M (wherein M represents H, NR<1>R<2>R<3>R<4> or M<1>1/L; R<1>, R<2>, R<3> and R<4> may be the same or different and respectively represent H or an alkyl group having 1-4 carbon atoms; and M<1> represents an L-valent metal) and the moisture content of the object is not more than 500 ppm in mass.
