PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pointer type measuring instrument capable of smoothly rotating a drive shaft. SOLUTION: This instrument is provided with a display device 2 for displaying specified information on its display surface, an index board 4 having a visible section 41 which makes the display surface arranged in front of this display device 2 visible and an index section 42 arranged around this see-through section 41, a flexible member 5 stretching around the see-through section 41 along the index section 42, a pointer 7 fixed to this flexible member 5, and a drive unit 8 for moving the pointer 7 along the index section 42, by making the flexible member 5 move along its longitudinal direction. The drive unit 8 has a rotating body 83 coupled to the flexible member 5, and a drive shaft 81 for making this rotating body 83 rotate.
