PURPOSE: A calling device between a door phone and a remote telephone in a home automation system and a method thereof are provided to automatically connect a call between a door phone and a guard chamber apparatus in a home automation apparatus, and to enable the call between the door phone and a remote telephone, only when it is decided that the call is essential, thereby preventing unnecessary communication charges. CONSTITUTION: When a visitor uses a door phone(300), a calling signal is supplied to a CPU(130) via a door phone controller(160). The CPU(130) retrieves a memory(140). If a home automation apparatus(100) is currently set to an absent mode, the CPU(130) retrieves whether a remote telephone number is registered in the memory(140). If so, the CPU(130) reads telephone number information, and provides the information to a telephone controller(150). The telephone controller(150) calls a remote telephone(500). When a call is connected, a speech channel is formed with the door phone(300).
