PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanner provided with an optical lens having a uniform thickness smaller than that of conventional lens and to provide an image forming apparatus having the optical scanner. SOLUTION: The optical scanner has a scanning optical system including a semiconductor laser 1 which emits a luminous flux, a galvanomirror 11 which scans a plane to be scanned 8 with the luminous flux, a scanning lens 6 which focuses the luminous flux on the plane to be scanned 8. At least a face of the first scanning lens 6 is a Fresnel face 61 which deflects the luminous flux by refraction and the Fresnel face 61 has gratings at least in a main scanning direction.
