<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focus adjusting device capable of readily and accurately adjusting a focus of an optical writing device to an image carrier body and to provide an image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus 1 comprises the focus adjusting device including a displacement mechanism, the optical writing device 12, a surface potential measuring device 228, the image carrier 222, and a CPU 201. A predetermined pattern is written on each of portions in the vicinity of both ends of the image carrier 222 by the optical writing device 12, and then the surface potentials at the portions are measured by means of the surface potential measuring device 228. The CPU 201 drives the displacement mechanism according to the measured surface potentials, thereby adjusting the focus by adjusting the position of the optical writing device 12 with respect to the image carrier 222. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
