1,133,144. Measuring stress electrically. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELETRISKA A. B. March 24, 1966 [March 25, 1965], No.13004/66. Heading G1N. In order to measure the stress in a block of magneto-strictive material, a hole is bored in the material in a direction at right angles to the externally applied stress and an A.C. energized pair of coils 6, 8 is housed within the box so as to produce a homogeneous magnetic field in the bore wall. A second pair of coils 7, 9, detects changes in flux distribution due to the stresses in the bore wall. The two pairs of coils are wound on a cruciform core 2 and embedded in synthetic resin, and may be placed either 90 degrees apart as shown or 60 degrees apart to give maximum sensitivity. In a second embodiment, Fig.4 (not shown) a single energizing coil and a single search coil are each wound on the cross-bar of an 'H' section core and the two cores are held embedded in synthetic resin at the desired angle to each other. |
