PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video apparatus with which video signals compliant to a plurality of video standards can be automatically identified. SOLUTION: After a Y video input part is selected, a microcontroller automatically detects a component video signal by setting an input switching matrix to transfer a signal from a component video terminal to a synchronization signal detector and when the terminal is feeding a valid luminance signal, the component video signal is recognized and then passed by an output switching matrix, but when the valid luminance signal is not present in the terminal, the microcontroller switches the input switching matrix to a CVBS or S-VHS terminal, so that the validity of a synchronization signal is examined by the synchronization signal detector.
