<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seat belt retractor for stopping a seat belt at a predetermined position and realizing a consistent resistance. <P>SOLUTION: The seat belt retractor has a second energy absorption means utilizing the ironing of wire in addition to torsion of a torsion bar 4 (a first energy absorption means) which is a rotary shaft of a winding drum in order to absorb the energy applied to the seat belt in an emergency, and a clutch mechanism to instantaneously switch the energy applied to the seat belt in an emergency from the absorption state by the first and second energy absorption means to the absorption state by only the first energy absorption means. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
