<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a guide wire excellent in the operability and kink-resistance with gentle change of the rigidity in the longitudinal direction of the wire. <P>SOLUTION: The guide wire 1 comprises a first linear wire 2 disposed on the distal side and the second linear wire 3 disposed on the proximal end side, and formed from a material having a elastic modulus higher than that of the first wire 2. The first wire 2 and the second wire 3 are connected by welding, and the second wire 3 has a small cross-section area part 32 whose area of the cross section is smaller than that of the base end part 23 of the first wire 2 near the welded part 14 with the first wire 2. The outer diameter of the small cross-section area part 32 becomes gradually smaller toward the distal end. The first wire 2 is preferably made of a superelastic alloy, and the second wire 3 is preferably made of stainless steel.
