PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved method for chemically producing N-(13- methyltetradecyl)acetamide (capsiamide) which is an ingredient of Guinea pepper and has an analgesic action and an anti-inflammatory action. SOLUTION: This method for producing 13-methyltetradecylamine useful as an intermediate for synthesizing capsiamide, characterized by reacting a 5-halogenovaleronitrile as a starting raw material with triphenylphosphine, condensing the obtained phosphonium salt with 8-methyl-7-nonenal, and then reducing the obtained 13-cyano-2-methyltridecane-2,9-diene. The 13- methyltetradecylamine can be produced in a high yield. The method for producing the capsiamide, characterized by acetylating the 13-methyltetradecylamine with acetic anhydride. The capsiamide can be produced in a high yield.
