PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a PDP having a long life by avoiding deterioration of the phosphor caused by a plasma. SOLUTION: In the plasma display panel, the excitation light for making a discharge gas generating phosphor emit light, is transmitted with effectively sufficient strength, and the phosphor and the discharge gas are separated by a protection layer that does not chemically react with the discharge gas.
