PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an evaporator for a refrigerating plant having a shorter time in frost removing operation by allowing easy separation of frost or ice deposited on a heat exchanger while slowing the deposition of the frost on a heat exchange face. SOLUTION: A low heat capacity surface portion A and a surface portion B inferior in nature of joint or deposition with frost or ice are dispersed on the heat exchange face, and a plate movable member is provided for creating cut lines in the frost or ice deposited on a plate fin when the temperature of the heat exchange face of the plate fin lowers to a preset temperature. The surface portion A and the surface portion B have such characteristics that the frost or ice contacting the surface portion A is melted earlier than the frost or ice contacting the surface portion B in frost removing operation and the frost or ice deposited on the surface portion B, overlapped at least in part with the frost or ice deposited on the surface portion A, is separated from the surface portion B with its dead weight.
