PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for assembling an optical module that enable high-precision optical axis alignment among a plurality of optical components constituting the optical module. SOLUTION: The method includes a step of performing image recognition of a positioning mark which is provided to an optical component and changeless as to image conversion by using an imaging device such as a camera, a step of finding a 1st calculation reference point from an obtained recognized image, a step of performing image rerecognition of the positioning mark while changing (inverting) the geometric relative relation between the optical component and imaging device by 180°, a step of finding a 2nd calculation reference point from a recognized image, a step of setting as an origin the center (fixed point) of the straight line connecting the 1st and 2nd calculation reference points, and a step of positioning the optical component based upon the origin position.
