<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain carbide suitable for producing the activated carbon used for the electrode of an electric double layer capacitor having a large electrostatic capacity density (F/cc). <P>SOLUTION: Carbide used for producing the activated carbon for the electrode of the electric double layer capacitor is manufactured through the manner wherein condensed polycyclic aromatic pitch having an optical anisotropy rate Oa of 1 to 90%, and a softening point Ts of 140 to 260°C is subjected to an oxygen crosslinking process carried out at a heating temperature T below 260°C to obtain organic material having a light component content L of 14,5 wt% or above. The obtained organic material is subjected to a carbonizing process in an inert gas atmosphere under the condition that a temperature rise rate Rt is set at 500°C/h or above, a heating temperature T is set at 600 to 1000°C, and a heating time t is set at two hours or below. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
