PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for displaying a dynamic image on an external display unit of a dual folder type mobile communication terminal are provided to arouse users' interest by avoiding a character-oriented screen and instead displaying animation. CONSTITUTION: A controller checks whether there is a key input from a key input unit(320). If the controller receives a key input signal or a folder close signal, the controller reads the first frame of animation selected by a user and the first frame information of animation from a memory unit and transmits them to a video reproducer(330). The controller controls an external display unit to turn on a backlight(340). The external display unit displays the first frame of the animation for a predetermined time according to frame time information of the animation information(350). The controller checks whether the currently displayed frame is the last frame of the animation(360). If the current frame is the last frame, the external display unit displays the last frame for a predetermined time according to the frame time information(390). The external display unit controls the backlight to be turned off.(390).
