PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that can always yield an excellent image even if the image forming apparatus is left in a stop state for a long period and an intermediate transfer belt deforms without making the apparatus or intermediate transfer body large-sized, or making the apparatus complex or greatly increasing the number of components. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has an image carrier 2 which carries an image, an intermediate transfer belt 1 to which the image on the image carrier 2 is transferred and which can rotate, rollers 8, 9, 10, and 11 which support and drive the intermediate transfer belt 1, a primary transfer device 5 which transfers the toner image on the image carrier 2 to the intermediate transfer belt 1, and a secondary transfer device 13 which transfers the toner image on the intermediate transfer belt 1 to a transfer material P. Further, the image forming apparatus internally having an integrating timer which measures power-OFF/ON intervals is equipped with a correction roller 21 which presses the intermediate transfer belt 1 when the time count of the integrating timer exceeds a specified value.
