PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods and apparatuses for facilitating processing of interlaced video images for progressive video displays. SOLUTION: In one method, a query for a graphics device driver (GDD) as to at least one graphics processing capability (GPC) that can be performed by an associated graphics device (GD) is received from a renderer (RDR) in de-interlacing video data, the query is transmitted to the GD, a response to the query which identifies one GPC or more to the RDR is received from the GDD, and the response is transmitted to the RDR. The method includes also the reception of an additional query for the GDD as to at least one input requirement associated with the identified GPC from the RDR, the transmission of the additional query to the GDD, the reception of the additional query for identifying one or more input requirements associated with the GPC from the GDD, and the transmission of the additional answer to the RDR.
