<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical object distinguishing device and a printing device using it capable of accurately distinguishing the sort of the object such as a sheet of paper with good reproducibility. <P>SOLUTION: The light emitted by a light emitting element 8 is collimated by a collimator lens 9, and the obtained light is condensed by an objective lens 10 and cast onto any object to be measured 11 moving in a certain direction so that a light spot having a specified diameter is formed on the object 11. The light reflected from at least a partial region of the object 11 is condensed by a light receiving lens 12, and the condensed light passes through a pinhole 13a. The sort of the object is distinguished by a distinction part 16 on the basis of the output of a light receiving element 14 whereto the light having passed through the pinhole 13a is put incident. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
