PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric water heater capable of reducing the power consumption, dispensing with the attention to hot water or steam when pouring water, and removing residual chlorine and the like. SOLUTION: This electric water heater has a water heating container 1, a heating means 3 for heating a liquid 2 in the water heating container, a water storage tank 20 for storing the liquid to be supplied to the water heating container, and an activated charcoal filter (water quality improving means) 30 for improving the quality of the liquid to be supplied from the water storage tank to the water heating container. A necessary quantity of the liquid 2 is boiled in the water heating container 1 and heat-retained, and the liquid to be boiled thereafter is stored in the water storage tank 20, whereby the power consumption is reduced, and the attention to hot water or steam when pouring water is dispensed with.
