Stellate pre-polymers containing reactive functional groups on the free ends useful for the production of ultra-thin coatings forming hydrogels and showing non-specific protein absorption and for antifouling coatings

The use of stellate pre-polymers having on average at least 4 polymer branches (A), soluble in water, with reactive functional groups (R) on the free ends, which can react with complementary functional groups (R') or with each other to form bonds for production of ultra-thin hydrogel forming coatings is new. An Independent claim is also included for preparation of these coatings by: (i) application of the pre-polymer with free functional end groups (R) to the surface to be coated; and (ii) subjection of the reactive groups to a linkage reaction.
