<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of securing a certain degree of visibility even under a bright use environment. <P>SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display device is provided with: a liquid crystal cell 15 in which a liquid crystal layer 27 is interposed between a counter substrate 3 and an element substrate 2; and a backlight 18 arranged on the outer surface side of the liquid crystal cell 15. An upper polarizing plate 20 is provided on the outer surface side of the counter substrate 3. A lower polarizing plate 23, a reflection polarizing plate 24 and a directional scattering layer 25 are provided in this order from a substrate side between the element substrate 2 and the backlight 18. Further, a reflector 29 is provided on the outer surface side of the light guide plate 16 of the backlight 18. The directional scattering layer 25 is constituted such that the degree of scattering is low for the light of a low incident angle range and the light of a high incident angle range inclined in a certain direction and high for the light of the high incident angle range inclined in the opposite direction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
