Recombinant narbonolide polyketide synthase

A recombinant DNA compound that encodes an enzyme for picromycin biosynthesis in Streptomyces venezuelae, and said enzyme selected from a narbolide synthase, a desoaminyl synthase, a desoaminyl transferase, a beta- glucosidase and a picromycin hydroxylase. Also described is a method of increasing the yield of a desoaminylated polyketide in a cell using the recombinant DNA.
