A process to deposit a removable coating, having at least a polyvinyl alcohol layer, onto a glass substrate, preferably a protective layer for display glass, is claimed. The polyvinyl alcohol has an average mol. wt. of 55,000 g/mol and a degree of hydrolysis of at least 95%. Independent claims are included for: (i) a display glass that is not polished before, during or after transport and/or further processing; and (ii) an electronic device comprising the display glass.
