The reforming of fuels containing carbon to produce a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen or to produce hydrogen is known per se in a variety of configurations. According to the invention, a non-thermal plasma is generated specifically for converting a gaseous or liquid fuel containing carbon by the addition of an oxidant in a gas treatment stage, in a zone, in which the densities of the gas components that are preferentially activated in the plasma are less than those of components that are not activated to such an extent. For said conversion, a respective part of the combustion gas in several gas treatment stages of this type is added to the water vapour, which acts as an oxidant. |
