PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silver halide emulsion that causes neither lowering of sensitivity nor lowering of contrast even in digital exposure such as laser scanning exposure, has high sensitivity and gives high-contrast gradation and to provide a silver halide photographic sensitive material using the emulsion. SOLUTION: In the silver halide emulsion, the coefficient of variation in equivalent spherical diameter of all grains is <=20% and >=50% of the total projected area of all the grains is occupied by silver halide grains having <=0.4μm equivalent spherical diameter and >=90 mol.% silver chloride content and having a silver bromide-containing phase and/or a silver iodide-containing phase in a layered state. The silver halide photographic sensitive material contains the silver halide emulsion.
