PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for joining an aluminum alloy member and a steel member by a direct friction welding method without interposing an insert material or the like. SOLUTION: An aluminum alloy member having an Mg content of <=3.5 wt.% is used, and the aluminum alloy member and a steel member are frictionally joined so that friction pressure P1 (MPa) and friction time T1 (sec) satisfy the following inequalities of P1<=-5×T1+50, 15<=P1<=40, and 2<=T1<=7.
