PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing a polymeric latex having good dispersibility, not forming a precipitate, etc., and excellent in suitability to polymerization, and to provide a thermally developable image recording material excellent in both suitability to coating and image preservability on the basis of the latex. SOLUTION: The thermally developable image recording material contains photosensitive silver halide, a non-photosensitive organic silver salt, a reducer capable of reducing silver ions and a binder, and a layer containing the binder consists of a polymeric latex obtained by emulsion polymerization under the presence of a basic compound, the photosensitive silver halide and the non- photosensitive organic silver salt.
